Juan and Kaitie Maestas are from some of the most successful Arthur Murray franchises in Southern California. Both are certified instructors, have been professional competitors, and top teachers in the Arthur Murray organization with over 12 years combined experience. Yet, they share many similarities to the students they love to teach. As a young, dating couple, they started taking lessons experiencing the same joys and challenges as all new students. As their love for each other grew, so did their love for dancing. They were hired by a previous Arthur Murray champion and current member of the Arthur Murray International, Inc. Dance Board, receiving personal training by him. Shortly after, wedding bells rang and their careers as professional dance instructors took off! In celebration of Arthur Murray’s 100th anniversary, Juan and Kaitie, along with their son, made the move from the west coast to east coast to become the new franchisees of Arthur Murray Charleston. They are looking forward to sharing their passion for dancing, and adding the same joy they have experienced through dancing to the lives of those in the Charleston area!
April 4th, 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the Arthur Murray Franchised Dance Studios! This is an exciting mark for us and there truly has never been a more thrilling time to learn ballroom dancing. Yet, like any great story, Arthur Murray Franchised Dance Studios had a very humble beginning.
Arthur Murray was a shy, young man who lacked confidence and had a stutter. Knowing he needed to get out of his shell to meet girls, he took up dance lessons and realized he had a knack for dancing. He experienced the benefits of dancing first hand and became a popular dance partner. This led him to teaching ballroom dancing at prestigious hotels and country clubs on the east coast. He then created the famous mail order footprint dance system in 1912. After realizing that people were having difficulty learning the steps on their own at home, he opened his first dance studio on 43rd street in New York City. Ultimately, Arthur Murray would be responsible for creating America’s second oldest franchise organization, Arthur Murray International, Inc., known around the world as a prominent entertainment company with over 260 franchises in 23 countries! Today, Arthur Murray is synonymous with teaching the world to dance and enhancing one’s social life through dancing.
